Architecture Guides - How to Research Precedent

Find Books

Step 2: Search for Books

Searching for Books - It would be great if all buildings had books but that is not always the case.  Start your search with the name of the building.  If there is not a book on your building broaden your search with the name of the architect.  If you still have not found books try searching the style, building type, country, or city.  Tip - use the keywords you identified in the building worksheet.

Search the online Notre Dame Library Catalog

The Notre Dame Library Catalog provides access to millions of items owned by the Notre Dame Libraries.  It includes books, periodicals (journals & magazines), maps, CDs/DVDs, electronic databases, ebooks, and more.  It does NOT include articles – for those go to 'Find Articles'.

Basic Searching

Keyword is the easiest and most flexible way to search the library catalog. It searches words in all fields of the catalog record: title, author, publisher, notes, etc.

Word searching combines words using connectors such as AND , OR , and AND NOT. Use the * as a wild card.
