Books

Under the Search & Find dropdown menu, select Books and use the
CatalogPlus tab to find volumes in Notre Dame's libraries.

CatalogPlus gives access to over 3.3 million books and other materials such as databases, maps, CDs, and DVDs. The titles of journals are listed, but the articles themselves are not;  for those, see the Journal Articles tab (above).

After searching CatalogPlus, to transfer bibliographic citations to RefWorks:
click on the Export/E-mail
link (along the right margin) to "export" the citations.
To establish a RefWorks account, see the Useful Tools tab (above).

For books not in Notre Dame's libraries: select
WorldCat  (linked on the CatalogPlus tab).

WorldCat lists over 230 million books, journals, and other items held by nearly every library in North America, and some libraries in other countries.

To borrow a book from another library, click on
Use FindText to find this item to place an "Interlibrary Loan" request and/or to export the citation to RefWorks.  To establish an Interlibrary Loan account, see the Useful Tools tab (above).

To search e-books, try
Google Books

Google has digitized over 15 million volumes from the collections of major research libraries. If the materials are older and out of copyright, their full text can be viewed; for newer titles, only snippets can be seen. In either case the books' contents are searchable, which is very helpful when looking for obscure information, or for finding the exact pages where a particular topic is discussed.

After searching Google Books, retrieving a list of items, and selecting one for viewing, if the full text is not available, click on the
Find in a library link and scroll down to see nearby holding libraries.

If the book is not at Notre Dame: scroll back up to the link for
Find or request this item with FindText@ND
then
Request document via Interlibrary Loan.
To establish an Interlibrary Loan account, see the Useful Tools tab (above).
