Biology Resources for BIOS Graduate Students

Find How-To Videos

There are several Web sites with how-to information on the techniques and research methods you may use in the laboratory.  The following are recommended:

JoVE (Journal of Visualized Experiments)
"The Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE) was established as a new tool in life science publication and communication, with participation of scientists from leading research institutions. JoVE takes advantage of video technology to capture and transmit the multiple facets and intricacies of life science research."

Genetics Education Training Videos (University of Leicester-GENIE)
"GENIE is developing a series of short educational videos covering common molecular biology laboratory techniques. Two videos have been produced so far covering pipetting and gel electrophoresis.  The videos are aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate students and can be viewed on DVD or as streaming media."

Biology Animation Library (Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory)
"The Dolan DNA Learning Center has been developing multimedia animation programs since 1990. These popular programs feature some of the most common molecular processes such as PCR, sequencing, and DNA restriction. View online or download for play from your computer."

BioInformatics Tutorial Series (BITS) (Massachusetts Institute of Technology)
"These video tutorials provide help on using databases and research tools for bioinformatics.  They are brought to you by a collaboration of the MIT Engineering and Science Libraries and Harvard's Countway Library."
